Zur Phänologie und Biologie von Bufoidia ledereri (KOCAK, 1981) und ihrer Präimaginalstadien mit Nachweis von Saisondimorphismus

(Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae)

Josef J. DE FREINA

Abstract: Several rearings of the early stages of Bufoidia ledereri (KOCAK, 1981) from Jordan have revealed new informations on the biology of this eremial east saharoarabian species. The larva and moths of two consecutive generations, reared on Prunus sp. are illustrated. Larvae of ledereri strongly resemble those of closely related Bufoidia pittawayi WILTSHIRE & LEGRAIN, 1997, but differ also in some characteristic marks. First time seasonal variation for the same genetic population is provided. Study of quantitative variation in monochrome or different ledereri-populations proofs also a colour polymorphism in adaption to different coloured desert substrata. However, the phenotypic variation of this local variations seem to have no genetic basis.

Stoermeriana nabataea sp. n., eine neue Lasiocampiden-Art aus Südwestjordanien

(Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae)

Josef J. de FREINA

Abstract: A new Arabian Lasiocampid moth, Stoermeriana nabataea DE FREINA, sp. n. is described from the upper levels of edom mountain region in SW-Jordan. Detailed illustrations of both sexes and genitalia, antenna, legs and epiphysis of male are provided. S. nabataea was confused with Saudi Arabian Pachypasa sultani WILTSHIRE, 1986, even there is no coincidence between patterns and morphological form of the genitalia. Therefore, male and {-genitalia of the latter are figured.

In zoogeographical respects this probably endemic relic Stoermeriana nabataea is an eremial element. The new species prefers warm, dry rocky sandstone expanses with little vegetaion in open mediterranean steppe-forests. The early stages of nabataea are still unknown, in all probability the larval foodplant should be Cupressus sempervirens L. var. horizontalis (MILL.) GORDON or (?and) Juniperus phoenica L. (Cupressaceae, Cupressoideae). Stoermeriana nabataea was taken in the middle of march and seems to be univoltine.

Herbst- und Fürhjahrsbeobachtungen zur Noctuidae-Fauna

in Nord-Griechenland (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae)

Hartmut Wegner

Abstract : Aiming at Noctuidae registration six journeys to Northern Greece took place in the years from 1998 to 2001 - four during autumn and two in spring-time. The main destination was the environment of Konitsa/ Epirus. By mainly using lure cords to attract the butterflies some supplementary data resulted as to the distribution and abundance of species hitherto less known in Greece. These species will be given a short comment. Species that are known from many locations in Greece will not begiven further comment. For some species hints will be given concerning bionomy. The habitat of Lithophane ledereri will be described in particularity. Three species were not known in Greece up to now: Xanthia ocellaris, Lithophane semibrunnea, Polia nebulosa.

The Noctuid Moths of the South of Russia and the Northern Caucasus(Lepidoptera)

 A. N. POLTAVSKY & A. V. NEKRASOV

Between 1972-2002, we collected Noctuidae moths at light and bait traps.  The results of these investigations were published in a few articles (reference list II).  The collecting was carried out in 70 localities in the region, in different habitats and altitudes. between 1876-1962 by such well-known entomologists as S. N. ALPHÉRAKY,  I. V. Kozhantchikov, M. A. RJABOV and others entomologists (reference list I).

In the present catalogue we have included all references, our original materials and data from collections of the Zoological Museum of the Moscow University (ZMU) and the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Science (St. Petersburg).  There are 684 Noctuidae species altogether in this catalogue; 606 species (88.5%) were caught between 1972-2001; 495 species (72.3%) are  known  from  references (1876-1962) and from museums collections; 416 species (60.7%) were detected during both periods of investigations, 79 species were recorded only before 1972 and 189 species only since 1972.

Smerinthus cinerascens STAUDINGER, 1879 status novus

Jan MIATLEUSKI, Povilas IVINSKIS & Vidmantas KARALIUS

Abstract. The taxon Smerinthus ocellata cinerascens STAUDINGER, 1879 is raised to the rank of species Smerinthus cinerascens STDGR (stat. nov.). A brief description is given and morphological differences from S. ocellata ocellata are pointed out. It is noted that S. cinerascens is smaller, grey; the setae of the antennae are of the same length as the antennal segments; the gnathos narrows from its base towards the crest; the anellus is only slightly sclerotised, the lateral lobes are broad and the base short and blunt; the distal spine of the aedeagus is almost straight; the caecum is upturned; the vesica is small, with few cornuti, some of which are very long. A description of the localities of S. cinerascens is given, together with a consideration of its evolutionary origin.
